1.This disgusting, disturbing, horrific and sad yet so beautiful and honest. So deep and moving, So heart-wrenching. Howterrifying it must be to be terrified of your own Father. How mind- it must be to want any attention from him, to be jealous of your sisters rape, to desire to be beaten or yelled at just something to know he knows you exist. How powerful you must feel knowing you are the reason he was sent to jail, how powerless you must feel to know he is now out. You are no longer furniture. You exist, you have a life.

2. Thaia Chaltas' because I am Furniture exemplifies the unique power of novels in verse. There are a lot of young adult novels about family violence, and many of them are excellent. However, in because I am Furniture, the verse form allows the reader to
experience the house of horrors in which Anke, the main character, lives.
Fourteen year-old Anke's siblings are terrorized by their abusive father while
her mother passively watches, seemingly accepting the violence and sexual abuse
of her children. Anke, however, is simply ignored.

Anke and her new friends along with her best friend and her sister go school shopping.
why did you choose this book?
I chose this book because when I went to go look for a book the libarian suggested it so I choose to read it. |
anke finishes her school shopping.
And school starts with in the next week or so. Soon after school starts the volleyball team has a game. The team looses the game and on the way back to there school the whole buss is silent. The coach gives them a little talk and tells the team that this was a lesson. The next day the team comes to practice with a better attitude. When anke returns home that day her fathers tell her how volleyball isnt a good sport that it teaches violence and that she will never be good at it. Her friend enters the house but she has to leave right back out because anke dad dosent like people in the house. Setting(where and when does the story take place?)
The setting takes place in there house and the high school. The book never said exactly where they live they just described the house. |
, Anke brother darren is bruised up. He is only bruised up from the fight that
he gor in with there father. Anke can remember when she was young her father loving her.she says that he used to read books to her and play the voices of the characters. But now she dosent evan feel loved. She looks at her father beating her brother and raping her sister as it being love. Who are the main characters?
_Anke _Mom _Dad _Darren _sister _Ankes friends |
Anke is in volleyball practice and the coach is practicing strength. There
so tired it a trieing exercise. Wen practice is over Anke and her family goes to the grocery store. On the way back from the grocery store there dad slows down to a person on the road with there thumb up hiking a ride. Anke and her sister and brother are surprised that he stopped then he said never do this girls. Her sister slides evan closer to the door to avoid the man . They drop the man off on the highway ahead. Who is your favorite character? Why? anke is my favorite character because she is aware of what is going on around her. Evan though it is rough at home she still has an outside life. She isnt really involved with her family but that is only because of the harsh things that her dad does to her sister and brother.

Anke has a volleyball game. She sprains her thumb but because they whipped the
red hawks she happley wrapped it up in tape. The next morning she woke up on the floor by her dads chair. That same morning her brother Darren came out the room with two black eyes but he wouldn't look at anyone. They mom told them that he was just sick, but everyone knew that he wasn't. Darren had got into a fight with their dad that night and after there long talk he asked to speak with him in private. Anke says he actually never says anything and she knows what that mean. which part of the book did you like the best? i like the beggining of the book the best because, it tell there life story. It tell you why she is scared of her dad, why her and her sister most of the time dont get along and why her brother is so quiet. The things that happen later in the book wouldnt be able understand without the beggining of the book.
